COX FLEXION DISTRACTION TECHNIQUE

According to the Cox Technique Resource Center, the definition for Cox Flexion Distraction is as follows:

"The COX Flexion-Distraction Technique is non-surgical, non-hospital, gentle, well-researched, well referenced,hands-on chiropractic spinal adjusting manipulation for decompressing spinal nerves and treating spinal pain.  It drops intradiscal pressure and increases the foraminal area.  Further, Cox Technique realigns and restores ranges of motions inherent to the spine while reducing low back pain, especially in radiculopathy patients, better than  active exercise therapy."

The Cox Technique is used for the following spinal conditions:

  • disc herniation ("slipped disc")
  • arm pain
  • neck pain
  • LOW BACK PAIN*
  • leg pain
  • stenosis
  • facet syndrome
  • spondylolisthesis
  • synovial cyst
  • whiplash
  • headache
  • failed back surgery

With the use of this highly specialized technique; many patients can be saved the agony of surgery.

LOW BACK PAIN*

Low back pain is an Epidemic; 75 million Americans suffer from low back pain, with three million new cases each year. Low back pain is the second leading cause of days missed from work and the third most common cause of hospitalization in this country. Low back surgery is seven times higher in the United States than in any other country in the world!

According to a ten-year study by the US Department of Health and Human Services, surgery has been found to be helpful in only 1 out of 100 cases of low back problems. Medical, scientific and chiropractic research has shown that the most common cause of low back pain is a herniated or slipped disc. In fact, even the most minor low back pain is often caused by the Inter-vertebral Disc.

Dr. Steel is the ONLY physician in Charlotte who has maintained his certification in the COX Flexion-Distraction Technique for the treatment of herniated discs.
